The A. J. Myers Store opened on August 12, 1902, on the southeast corner of 9th and Yale and for years covered the entire territory of the Heights in its delivery service.

In 1912, Dave Kaplan leased the F. F. Ibsch Store on 22nd and Yale. Two years later kaplan built his own store across from Ibsch. Kaplan's and Ben Hur thus has a record of 44 years of continuous service in the Heights.
